I/ Definition

What is QVCT?

To understand what SQVCT is, let's first take a look at its creator, ANACT.ANACT... Don't run away, these acronyms are your friends and mean you no harm! ANACT stands for Agence Nationale pour l'Amélioration des Conditions de Travail (National Agency for the Improvement of Working Conditions), a public administrative institution created in 1973 under the supervision of the Ministry of Labor. Its role?

Designing and disseminating methods that improve health and safety in the workplace, quite simply! As for Quality of Life and Working Conditions, this refers to a collective approach that can be led by a company, an association, or even a public body (well, well, just like a OuiLive Challenge).

The ANACT's social partners (employer and employee representatives, employer associations, and unions) recently added the phrase "working conditions" to the QWL title to avoid any misunderstanding. Indeed, QWL initiatives must focus on improving work and working conditions.

Although tempting and attractive, offering massages and sports activities, delivering fruit and vegetables, or even redesigning and redecorating offices will not bring about lasting improvements in working methods or give meaning to work. The approach must be fundamental in order to be truly effective!

II/ Objectives of the SQVCT

To implement this approach, clearly defined objectives must be met. The main one? To enable everyone to do their job in the best possible conditions, individually, and to collectively build a work organization that promotes people's health and productivity. To implement this approach, clearly defined objectives must be met.

Once the overall objective of the QVCT approach has been defined, what sub-objectives should organizations put in place to achieve it?

  • Give every employee the opportunity to express themselves and take action in their work.
  • Learning to work better together.
  • Enabling employees to participate in organizational changes.
  • Aim for an acceptable and sustainable development model.

These objectives have led to the creation of a dedicated week: Quality of Life and Working Conditions Week. A flagship event and HR highlight, it provides an opportunity to reflect on one's work environment, question it, and enhance it.

This is the ideal time to reflect and discuss best practices for today and tomorrow, as well as initiatives to implement to contribute to the well-being of employees. This year,QWLC Week will take place from June 19 to 23, 2023, and is entitled "Joy Week"!

III/ Why organize a QWL week?

Organizing a QVCT week is therefore an opportunity to dedicate time within the company to identify and provide solutions to the difficulties encountered by employees. And this focus is essential! Indeed, while 78% of HR managers identify QVCT as a key issue in their company, only 47% of companies integrate it into their organization.

That's a shame, especially when you consider that companies that put QWL at the heart of their business plan see a 235% increase in their return on investment (Opinion Way 2018)!

What initiatives are in place to promote SQVCT?

It is important to plan your Quality of Life and Working Conditions Week several months in advance, which is why we are telling you now about the initiatives you can put in place. Here are several examples of actions or measures you can take to improve QWL in your company:

  • Optimizing the quality of your office space (creating a relaxation area, equipping yourself to combat sedentary lifestyles, etc.)
  • Organize activities that promote well-being (massages, yoga, sophrology, various sports classes, training workshops, conferences on employee well-being, etc.).
  • Rewarding performance during an Employee Appreciation Day
  • Engaging in physical activity as a team/team building
  • Set up awareness workshops and solidarity initiatives
  • Take part in the next SQVCT Challenge 2023 organized by OuiLive in partnership with Café Joyeux!

IV/ Employer obligations

the SQVCT

Until recently, the legal framework for quality of life at work (QLW) focused on the prevention of psychosocial risks (PSRs), also known as occupational risks. Employers and HR departments were required to implement measures to protect physical and mental health and ensure safety at work.

Then came the National Interprofessional Agreements (ANI), which set out employers' obligations regarding QWL. It was the ANI of June 19, 2013, entitled "Towards a policy for improving Quality of Life at Work (QWL) and Professional Equality," that truly defined QWL. Companies are strongly encouraged to implement QWL policies that promote better working conditions for employees.

How can you implement QVCT in your organization?

Before embarking on a QVCT initiative, it is advisable to assess the current situation within your company. Several criteria can be used, based in particular on the three indicators taken into account by ANACT:

  • Turnover:the rate at which a company's staff changes. If it is low, this is certainly an indicator of good employee quality of life.
  • Absenteeism rate:as with turnover, the lower it is, the better the quality of life!
  • The Employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS):a key indicator that assessesengagement at work. Derived from the NPS, which measures customer satisfaction, it allows you to estimate the likelihood of your employees recommending your company.

Once you have assessed employee needs, you can take steps to promote employee well-being and implement a consistent QVCT approach within your organization.

  1. Prioritize issuesandestablish actions: is the priority professional equality? The social climate within the company? Management?
  2. Depending on the issues identified, takeappropriateaction: awareness and promotion campaigns, competitions to encourage initiatives, discussion groups, challenges to improve corporate culture, or personal development programs.
  3. Monitor and manage your approach: once these actions have been implemented, it is essential to evaluate the results obtained and ensure that the actions are sustained over time.
  4. Coat everything with a entry in the next SQVCT 2023 Challenge (yes, we're repeating ourselves, but it's for a good cause) and you're all set!

So he's back! But he's changed a lot!
