Movember Challenge: Get your employees involved in a special men's health event!

Movember Challenge

1. An operation straight from the land of kangaroos!

It all began a few years ago, far from here, on the other side of the world... in Australia! It was in a Melbourne bar in 2003 that two friends, Travis Garone and Luke Slattery, decided to launch the Movember movement over a beer.

After observing that men were less attentive to their health than women, they set themselves a crazy challenge! To convince as many men as possible to grow a moustache, a symbol of masculinity brought up to date, to make themselves seen and, above all, heard.

The Movember Foundation was born shortly afterwards, and the funds raised were donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. Little by little, the movement spread to several countries, including France in 2012. The aim is simple: to change the face of men's health. To achieve this, men participating in the movement are invited to grow a moustache for 30 days to show their support for the cause.

2. Focus on mental health and male cancers.

Today, Movember is committed to several issues: mental health and suicide prevention, and male cancers. In fact, 75% of deaths by suicide are men. Why is this? Hidden depression, denial, lack of communication, shame or a supposed attack on their virility... Whatever the reason, the challenge is to free the word on this silent crisis.

As for male cancers, we're referring here to prostate and testicular cancer, the main cancers Movember is fighting. Testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men, closely followed by prostate cancer, the second most common cancer among men worldwide, with over 1.4 million cases recorded each year. Even when successful, treatment can take its toll on patients' physical and mental health. Movember's ambition? To ensure that no more men die from cancer.

That's why Movember calls for awareness, screening and action!

4. What actually happens?

Sixteen years after the story of the two friends in that Melbourne bar, the Movember movement has attracted millions of participants across 20 countries. Since then, every November, public opinion has been raised about men's health through the moustache, the emblem of the cause.

Each registered company will contribute funds to bring together prostate and testicular cancer researchers from around the world. In addition, they will also contribute to a new care intervention program that will help men with prostate cancer access healthcare and support that will improve their quality of life.

And yes, Movember is an opportunity to raise awareness in your community: the idea is to understand, promote and defend men's health. The goal? Mobilize men (and women) to be better informed, more active and connected!
